Tripoli, June 13, 2025 (LANA) – The European Union Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed the European Union's full support for the political process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), stressing the need for all parties to commit to a comprehensive and credible process that paves the way for fair national elections.
This came during a meeting Orlando held on Thursday in Tripoli with the Minister of State for Political Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Walid Al-Lafi, where they discussed the latest political and security developments in the country, including the importance of maintaining calm and strengthening the ceasefire.
Orlando explained, in a series of tweets posted on his official account on the "X" platform, that he welcomed the formation of committees concerned with security arrangements and human rights, while expressing his concern about the ongoing tensions in the capital.
The European Envoy affirmed that the European Union remains committed to the principle of accountability for any obstacles that may hinder the political process, emphasizing that addressing economic challenges is an urgent necessity. He called for the adoption of fair and transparent public spending at the national level, as he described it as a crucial factor in protecting Libyan families.
Orlando concluded his tweets by emphasizing that the European Union stands ready to support all efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in Libya.
