Tripoli, June 11, 2025 (LANA) – The two deputies of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi, announced their welcome and full support for the launch by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) of a public opinion poll on the outcomes of the Advisory Committee.
In a joint press statement issued Wednesday evening, the two deputies praised the efforts of the UN Mission and its commitment to engaging Libyans in a process that restores the voice of the people in determining the contours of their future within a transparent and participatory process that enhances the chances of national consensus and consolidates the principles of inclusiveness and balanced representation.
Al-Koni and Al-Lafi affirmed their belief that national consultations, given the deep divisions and multiplicity of actors, cannot gain credibility or acceptance if they are managed unilaterally by one party or used as a tool for political dominance and the imposition of a fait accompli. They considered that the oversight of such initiatives by a neutral international body, as in the survey launched by the mission, constitutes a necessary guarantee to maintain balance and prevent these sensitive processes from slipping into selective exploitation that excludes hatred and grants legitimacy to one party over another.
The two deputies in the Presidential Council believed that this step represents a responsible expression of the mission's commitment to maintaining an equal distance from all parties and a serious effort to provide a space for all Libyans to freely express their opinions, free from political alignments, and within the framework of a consultative process that restores the voice of the people in shaping their future.
At the end of their statement, Presidential Council members Al-Koni and Al-Lafi called on all Libyans to engage positively and participate widely in this survey, considering it a valuable opportunity to make their voices heard at a pivotal moment in the nation's history, a moment that requires everyone to rise above their differences and contribute seriously to charting a comprehensive and secure path toward stability.
