Cairo, June 11, 2025 (LANA) – Egypt has stressed the need to obtain prior approval for any foreign delegations to visit the border area adjacent to Gaza (the city of Arish and the Rafah crossing).
This came in an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs on Wednesday evening. The statement coincided with the launch of a popular convoy from Tunisia and Algeria, passing through Libya, under the slogan "The Maghreb Steadfastness Convoy to Break the Siege on the Gaza Strip." The convoy was scheduled to arrive in the Egyptian city of Rafah on the Gaza border on June 15.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its statement that the only way for Egyptian authorities to continue processing requests and inquiries related to visits by foreign delegations to the border area adjacent to Gaza (the city of El-Arish and the Rafah crossing) is to follow the regulatory controls and mechanisms in place since the beginning of the war on Gaza. These include submitting an official request to Egyptian embassies abroad, or through requests submitted by foreign embassies in Cairo or representatives of organizations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It should be noted that numerous visits have already been arranged for foreign delegations, both governmental and from non-governmental human rights organizations.
The statement emphasized that Egypt emphasizes the importance of adhering to these regulatory controls, which have been put in place to ensure the safety of visiting delegations due to the delicate situation in this border area since the beginning of the crisis in Gaza. In this regard, it affirms that no requests will be considered or invitations will be responded to that are received outside the framework defined by the regulatory controls and mechanisms in place in this regard.
According to the statement, Egypt stresses the importance of citizens of all countries adhering to the laws and regulations governing entry into Egyptian territory, including obtaining visas or prior permits. It also emphasizes its unwavering support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and its rejection of Israel's flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law. It also emphasizes the importance of pressuring Israel to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip and allow humanitarian access through all Israeli roads and crossings into the Gaza Strip.
