Nice, June 10, 2025 (LANA) - President of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Mnifi, discussed with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the French city of Nice the latest developments in Libya and ways to enhance stability, taking into account the specific nature of the situation and preparing the ground for a permanent solution.
The Secretary-General praised Al-Mnifi's pivotal role in consolidating the state of calm and his efforts to create a positive climate that allows for measured progress on the national process. He stressed the importance of maintaining the current momentum and building on it with measured steps that enhance trust between the parties, according to the media office of the President of the Council.
Guterres welcomed the formation of the Security Arrangements and Human Rights Committee, considering it a promising indication of the serious intention to create the appropriate conditions for a more stable phase. He reiterated the United Nations' full support for these steps, which will contribute to facilitating a gradual return to the electoral process.
The Secretary-General affirmed the UN Secretariat's commitment to continuing close coordination with the Presidential Council, noting the importance of strengthening the existing institutional partnership with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), thus contributing to advancing a consensual environment that enables Libyans to take decisive steps toward a stable, democratic future.
