Tripoli, June 7, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) welcomed the Presidential Council's formation of two committees, comprised of key stakeholders, to address security and human rights issues.

The mission said in a statement on Saturday that these efforts aim to strengthen security arrangements to prevent the outbreak of fighting and ensure the protection of civilians, as well as to address human rights issues in detention centers and combat the phenomenon of arbitrary detention.

The mission expressed its commitment to providing technical support to the two committees, in line with international standards and the UN mandate in Libya. It stressed that the formation of these two committees comes at a critical time, as the Libyan people demand serious reforms and accountable and democratic state institutions.
