Tripoli, June 4, 2025 (LANA) – The European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, reiterated the European Union's full support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), during his meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh.
Orlando explained, in a tweet posted on Wednesday via his official account on X, that he and Tetteh discussed the latest developments in the political process in Libya and the next steps in the UN-facilitated political process. They also exchanged views on ongoing engagement with Libyan and international partners and ways to enhance the European Union's support for the UNSMIL, especially in light of the sensitive phase the country is going through.
The European Ambassador praised what he described as the "renewed sense of urgency" reflected in the mission's consultations, affirming the European Union's strong commitment to supporting UN efforts aimed at bringing peace and stability to Libya.
Orlando also stressed the importance of all Libyan parties engaging constructively with the efforts of the UN mission, warning against unilateral and uncoordinated initiatives, which would have negative repercussions for the political process.
He said, "We agreed on the need to make every possible effort to maintain the ceasefire and prevent a relapse into violence," affirming the European Union's unwavering commitment to supporting accountability in the face of any threats to Libya's security and stability.
