Tripoli, June 3, 2025 (LANA) - Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, confirmed that the recent security operation in Tripoli was precise and disciplined against an outlaw group, and succeeded with minimal losses.
Dbaiba said in his speech during the second regular meeting of the Council of Ministers for 2025 that what happened the day after the operation was not a natural flurry, but rather a deliberate attempt to distort the situation.
The Prime Minister added that those who previously attacked Tripoli under the pretext of confronting militias have now stood against the state's army and police.
Dbaiba continued, "They have demonized the capital at every platform, and today they oppose the imposition of security on those they sought to label militias yesterday." He pointed out that the recent battle revealed the duplicity and hypocrisy of many political elites, who are governed by interests rather than principles. The Prime Minister indicated that comprehensive protection would be provided to all those who chose to demonstrate peacefully, without discrimination or interference.
He emphasized that no arrests or security violations were recorded during the demonstrations, and that the utmost legal discipline was applied. He stated that the state distinguished between those expressing their opinions and those who threaten stability by carrying weapons or blocking roads.
Dbaiba revealed that he had received broad international support for the security measures and welcomed the serious efforts to end armed chaos. He emphasized that the international community recognized that what we are doing is not a power struggle, but rather an imposition of the rule of law.
He explained that the state ministries acted responsibly and professionally, and the situation was controlled without descending into chaos or abuse of power.
Dbaiba noted that the security operation represents a practical beginning to restore state authority within the capital, without partnership with any parallel force, and that no party will again be permitted to practice arrests, issue sentences, or control prisons outside the law.
The Prime Minister stressed that the regular security institutions are the only ones authorized to maintain security and implement the law. He said that anyone who thinks he is above the state will find an army and police that are subject only to the law and legitimacy.
