Tripoli, 1 June 2025 (Lana) Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, discussed yesterday with representatives of the associations of the Libyan political party the current political and security situation, specifically the recent events in Tripoli.
During the meeting held at the UNSMIL’s office in Tripoli, Tetteh said it was UNSMIL’s priority to prevent further violence and underscore the right of the people to protest and the need to ensure the safety of demonstrators, according to a tweet by the mission.
She also stressed the need to advance an inclusive political process based on the options recommended by the Advisory Committee and ongoing consultations with stakeholders, including the broader public.
The participants expressed a shared desire to urgently forge an inclusive political process that leads to national elections and establishes a united government.
