The foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, at the conclusion of their meeting in Cairo, affirmed the need to de-escalate the situation in Tripoli and push for a comprehensive political dialogue.

Tripoli, May 31, 2025 (LANA) – At the conclusion of their tripartite meeting held today, Saturday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria renewed their call on all Libyan parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately de-escalate the situation in the capital, Tripoli. They emphasized the importance of ending the political division and moving forward with the comprehensive political process.

In their closing statement, the ministers affirmed that the solution in Libya must be "Libyan-to-Libyan," stemming from the will of all components of the Libyan people, without external interference that would hinder stability. They emphasized their complete rejection of any foreign intervention that would complicate the Libyan crisis and exacerbate the situation.

The statement emphasized the need to resume the political process aimed at unifying sovereign institutions and organizing simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections, within the framework of broad national consensus.

The ministers also reiterated their full support for the efforts of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission to consolidate the ceasefire and work toward the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries within a clear timeframe, in addition to reunifying the military and security establishment in line with international and regional tracks.

The participants emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the three countries and the United Nations, in order to assess developments in Libya and exchange views that support achieving security, stability, and sustainable development in the country and the region.

The final statement of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria on Libya revealed their agreement to hold regular meetings within the framework of the tripartite mechanism, to enhance coordination and consultation among the three countries. The next ministerial meeting is scheduled to be held in Algeria, followed by a meeting in Tunisia, before the end of this year, according to the statement.
