Cairo, May 31, 2025 (LANA) - The Arab Republic of Egypt will host a ministerial consultative meeting today, Saturday, bringing together the foreign ministers of Libya's neighboring countries: Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt, with the participation of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). This meeting is part of efforts to support the political process, encourage intra-Libyan dialogue, and enhance stability in the country.
Egyptian sources told WAL that the meeting will be attended by Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs; Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad of the Republic of Tunisia; and Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The sources reported that this meeting comes within the framework of the tripartite mechanism of Libya's neighboring countries, which was recently reactivated with the aim of coordinating positions among the countries directly concerned with the developments of the Libyan crisis, in light of the escalating challenges in Libya and the stumbling block in the political settlement process.
According to sources, the ministers are scheduled to discuss ways to activate a comprehensive and inclusive political process leading to presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible, ensuring Libya's unity and sovereignty, the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries, and ending the state of institutional division.
The meeting is also expected to emphasize the rejection of foreign interference in Libyan affairs and the need to unify efforts to support Libyan national institutions under the umbrella of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
The sources said that by hosting this meeting, Egypt affirms its unwavering commitment to supporting Libya's unity and stability and rejecting any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or stability, based on the bonds of neighborliness and common interests that bind the Egyptian and Libyan peoples.
