Libyan Government calls on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities regarding the growing threats to the Libyan oil sector.

Pulbished on:

Benghazi, 29 May 2025 (Lana) The Libyan Government assigned by the House of Representatives (HoR), called on the Attorney General's Office to open a comprehensive investigation into what it considered the attack on the National Oil Corporation's(NOC) headquarters in Tripoli, and to apprehend the perpetrators, indicating to the possibility of taking precautionary measures, including declaring force majeure.

In a statement published on its Facebook page, the government said that the attack on the office of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation and the threats to its employees set a dangerous precedent affecting a sovereign institution that is a pillar of the national economy and a grave threat to the oil sector, the wealth and livelihood of Libyans, and hinders efforts to unify state institutions, particularly sovereign ones.

The government expressed its astonishment at what it described as the "deliberate silence" of the UNSMIL and the U.S. envoy, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities regarding the growing threats to the Libyan oil sector.

The statement concluded by stressing that the government may be forced to take a series of precautionary measures in the event of a recurrence of these attacks, including declaring force majeure on oil fields and ports or temporarily relocating the NOC headquarters to a safe city such as Ras Lanuf, Brega, or elsewhere.

NOC confirmed on Wednesday that reports circulating in some social media about a storming of the corporation's building in Tripoli were completely false.

The corporation categorically denied these rumors, calling on the media to exercise accuracy and professionalism and to rely on official sources when reporting news, especially when it concerns sovereign facilities that represent  the national economy.
