Tripoli, May 25, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) began the first public consultation sessions on the Advisory Committee's recommendations during two official visits to the cities of Zintan and Misrata last Wednesday and Thursday.

Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Stephanie Khoury, participated in meetings in Zintan on Wednesday, before joining Special Representative Hannah Tetteh the following day during her visit to Misrata.

The UNSMIL stated that during the meetings, it heard the views and observations of mayors and local councils, youth and civil society representatives, as well as a number of elected and military officials, regarding the Advisory Committee's recommendations and the options presented.

These rounds are part of a series of community consultations scheduled to take place across the country, with the aim of developing a consensual roadmap that paves the way for elections and relaunching the political process on a comprehensive national basis.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) emphasized the importance of involving all components of Libyan society at this stage to ensure the inclusiveness of the political process and broaden the base of national consensus.

The Advisory Committee emphasized that legislative reform alone will not guarantee a successful political transition. It considered it essential to reach a comprehensive political settlement, supported by national consensus and characterized by inclusiveness.

The Committee called on all Libyan parties to work in good faith with the United Nations Mission to build a unified, sovereign, and democratic Libya.
