Tripoli, May 24, 2025 (LANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) organized a specialized workshop via videoconferencing technology, aiming to empower Libyan journalists and media professionals to master research and news verification skills using artificial intelligence tools, as part of the "Basirah" professional development program for journalists.
The mission stated in a post on its official page on Saturday that the workshop witnessed the participation of fifty journalists and media professionals from various regions of Libya, including twenty women, in addition to professors and media students. The workshop was presented by Pamela Kesrouani, a teaching fellow at the Google News Initiative for the Middle East and North Africa.
According to the mission, the workshop introduced a set of artificial intelligence tools developed by Google, including NotebookLM and PinPoint, which help accelerate research and information verification processes. The workshop also featured the Fact Check Explorer, which enables journalists to verify the authenticity of news by accessing reports from independent fact-checking organizations around the world.
An explanation was also given of the Gemini software, which automates routine tasks such as translation, transcription, dubbing, and machine translation, enhancing media efficiency and contributing to improving content quality.
This workshop is part of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya's efforts to enhance the capacities of journalists and media professionals and enable them to meet modern professional challenges using the latest digital technologies.
