Complete power outage in eastern Libya

Benghazi, May 23, 2025 (LANA) – The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the government assigned by the House of Representatives announced today, Friday, a complete power outage in cities and regions of eastern Libya.

Ministry spokesman Rabie Khalifa told the Libyan News Agency that the reason behind this sudden outage is still unknown. A technical malfunction caused the power plants to go out of service across the entire eastern region.

He added that "technical teams are continuing to work to trace the source of the malfunction and explore the fault that led to the plants' shutdown. The process of restoring service and gradually restoring electricity will begin once the technical repair work is completed, which we hope to achieve within the next few hours."
