Libya and the European Union affirm their security and humanitarian partnership on the migration issue.

Tripoli, May 23, 2025 (LANA) - The Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, discussed with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, the latest developments in the security situation in the country and ways to enhance cooperation on the migration issue.
During the meeting, held yesterday at the ministry's headquarters in Tripoli, Trabelsi affirmed the Libyan state's commitment to preserving the dignity and rights of migrants during their stay on Libyan territory. He emphasized the need to enhance coordination with the European Union to facilitate voluntary return procedures to their countries of origin in an orderly and humane manner.
The two sides discussed the voluntary repatriation program for illegal migrants, as one of the humanitarian paths to address this complex phenomenon. They also discussed ways for the European Union to support training and qualification programs for Ministry of Interior personnel, which would enhance the capabilities of Libyan security personnel and improve their performance in accordance with the highest professional and legal standards.
The two parties stressed the importance of continuing joint consultation and coordination, and working to implement practical programs that reflect the strategic partnership between Libya and the European Union, contributing to supporting the Libyan state's efforts to consolidate security and stability locally and regionally.
