Tripoli, May 20, 2025 (LANA) - The Presidential Council's Abdullah Al-Lafi met with the UK Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, this morning, Tuesday, to discuss the latest political and security developments in the country, in light of recent developments in the capital, Tripoli.
The Presidential Council's media office stated that the meeting reviewed the efforts exerted to consolidate calm and enhance stability, within the framework of the pivotal role played by the Presidential Council as the supreme authority of military leadership in the country, and its ongoing efforts to rebuild state institutions on the foundations of national consensus and comprehensive stability.
The office explained that during the meeting, the British Ambassador affirmed his country's full support for the Presidential Council's efforts to consolidate calm and establish security. He praised the Council's commitment to managing the current phase wisely and responsibly, ensuring the protection of civilians and the preservation of state institutions.
According to the media office, Al-Lafi reiterated the Presidential Council's commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and constructively cooperating with the outcomes of its advisory committee. He noted that creating the appropriate conditions for holding elections represents a top national priority and an indispensable path to leading the country toward lasting peace and sustainable stability.
