Baghdad, May 18, 2025 (LANA) - UN Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed that the events facing Palestinians in Gaza have "exceeded all limits of ugliness and cruelty."

In remarks in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, Guterres said that words are no longer enough to describe the horror of the situation endured by Palestinians in Gaza.

He added, "Imposing a policy of blockade and starvation is a disregard for international law. Therefore, the blockade on the entry of humanitarian aid must be lifted immediately."

For his part, Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, called in a statement for the rapid, safe, and unhindered delivery of aid to civilians in need, adding that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners possess the expertise, determination, and moral clarity to deliver aid on the scale necessary to save lives throughout Gaza.

Fletcher emphasized that the United Nations and its partners have the personnel, distribution networks, and trust of local communities on the ground, and have "aid ready to move now."
