Dabaiba to a delegation from Misrata: The security operation in Abu Salim achieved its goals by ending illegal positions

Tripoli, May 17, 2025 (LANA) – Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, discussed the general situation in the capital on Saturday with a number of activists and dignitaries from Misrata, the latest developments in the capital following the security operation carried out in the Abu Salim area.

The Prime Minister's media office reported that the Misrata delegation expressed its strong and unwavering support for the Government of National Unity and its president's vision of ending armed groups and consolidating the authority of the state through its regular institutions. They also expressed their support for Misrata as a whole in its battle to impose the law, calling for unwavering adherence to this path, which reflects a unified national will that rejects chaos and the rule of arms.

The office stated that the attendees stressed the need for the government to shoulder its responsibilities in revealing the fate of the city's missing residents, who were previously abducted by the Stability Support Apparatus, and to prosecute all those involved in their extrajudicial detention.

According to the office, the Prime Minister confirmed that the security operation in Abu Salim achieved its objectives, ending the illegal presence of armed groups and restoring institutions to normal operations under the protection of regular forces. He emphasized that there would be no return to any manifestations outside the army or police institutions.

Dabaiba also reviewed the details of the day following the operation, explaining that the capital witnessed difficult and unfortunate events through which some parties attempted to inflame tensions. He explained that the government acted quickly, through the Ministry of Defense, which was able to stop the clashes and redeploy regular forces to the contact areas.
