Baghdad, May 17, 2025 (LANA) – The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, affirmed that the League is following with great concern the developments taking place in Libya, warning of the danger of the recent escalation in Tripoli and the west of the country.

During his speech at the opening session of the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, Aboul Gheit explained that the division continues to pose a threat to the unity of the Libyan state. He called on all parties to prioritize the national interest and unity over narrow interests, and to end the current phase in preparation for achieving comprehensive reconciliation that will enable Libya to move towards a secure and stable future.

Aboul Gheit affirmed that the Arab League will spare no effort in supporting the political process led by the Libyans themselves, emphasizing that the unity of Libya's territory and its national institutions is the League's top priority.
