Tripoli, May 16, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) affirmed citizens' right to peaceful protest, referring to calls for demonstrations in the capital, Tripoli, on Friday.

In a statement, the mission warned against any escalation of violence, reminding all parties of their obligations to protect civilians.

The UN mission stated that the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators constitutes a serious violation of human rights and may amount to crimes punishable under international law.
