Tripoli, May 14, 2025 (LANA) – The European Union affirmed its strong support for the truce announcement and the subsequent de-escalation of tensions in Tripoli.
In a statement, the EU Mission to Libya expressed concern over reports of civilian casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure in residential areas. It expresses its sympathy with all victims and their families.
The statement called for the truce to be maintained and for all parties concerned to engage without delay in a genuine dialogue to resolve all outstanding differences in a peaceful and constructive manner.
The EU urged all parties to support the commendable mediation and de-escalation efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
The EU strongly called for ensuring full accountability for those responsible for crimes committed during this crisis.
The EU affirmed its commitment to working with all like-minded Libyan and international partners to ensure a return to calm in Tripoli and the swift resumption of the mediation process facilitated by UNSMIL, according to the statement.
