Tripoli, May 14, 2025 (LANA) - Six people were killed and more than 70 wounded, some in critical condition, in violent clashes that erupted since dawn on Wednesday in the heart of the capital, Tripoli, between the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) and the 444th Combat Brigade of the Libyan Army.
Mohammed Abdel Wahab, a health sector official in the Tripoli Central Municipality, confirmed that the victims included a foreign civilian, while the rest were military personnel. They were transferred to several clinics in the center of the capital for treatment.
The clashes were concentrated in the Ras Hassan area, Al-Jaraba Street, and the vicinity of Al-Saqqa Mosque, but quickly spread to other areas, including densely populated residential neighborhoods, and escalated into violent confrontations in alleys and streets.
These developments come after the Ministry of Defense in the Government of National Unity announced the launch of the second phase of its military plan to take over the headquarters of armed groups, which had previously been canceled by a government decision. This move aims to impose state control and establish security, according to an official government statement.
