Tripoli, May 14, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed its deep concern over the escalation of violence and armed clashes in densely populated residential neighborhoods of the capital, Tripoli, for the second consecutive night, warning of the grave risks threatening the lives of civilians as a result of the ongoing fighting.
In a statement early Wednesday, the mission called for "an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in all populated areas," noting that the continuation of clashes will only lead to further destabilization in the capital and across the country.
The mission stressed the need for all parties to prioritize the protection of civilians, calling for urgent engagement in "serious and constructive dialogue" to resolve differences through peaceful means.
The UN Mission affirmed its full support for all initiatives aimed at de-escalation and mediation, reiterating its readiness to offer its good offices to end the fighting and facilitate dialogue, in order to preserve stability and the safety of civilians and their property.
