During his meeting with the UN mission, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the priority of forming a unified government to hold elections.

Al-Qubbah, May 12, 2025 (LANA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, discussed developments in the political process in Libya on Monday with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Tetteh, and her deputy, Stephanie Khoury.

During the meeting, held today, Monday, at his office in the city of Al-Qubbah, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed that the outcomes of the recent Advisory Committee clearly emphasized the priority of forming a unified national government capable of overseeing the implementation of electoral requirements as soon as possible.

Counselor Saleh said that this step is essential to ensuring a stable political environment and effective management of the electoral process.

Counselor Aguila Saleh also stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with the United Nations Mission and the international community, noting the House of Representatives' commitment to the political agreement and the outcomes of the (6+6) Committee, and everything that would contribute to ending the state of division and unifying state institutions.

For her part, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hannah Tetteh, affirmed the UN mission's commitment to supporting dialogue between the Libyan parties and working to rebuild trust by bringing viewpoints closer together, thus contributing to creating a conducive environment for free and inclusive elections.
