Tripoli, May 12, 2025 (LANA) – The US Embassy in Libya announced its support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) in calling for calm, amid reports of escalating tensions in the capital, Tripoli.
The US position came in a tweet posted by the US Embassy on Monday on its Twitter account, the X platform.
The UN Mission had previously announced its close monitoring of reports of military movements and escalating tensions in Tripoli and the western region in general, calling on all parties to urgently de-escalate, refrain from any provocative actions, and work to resolve differences through constructive dialogue.
The Mission expressed its full support for efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful solution, including initiatives led by notables and social leaders, and emphasized the fundamental responsibility of all parties to protect civilians.
It's worth noting that media outlets and social media pages have circulated video clips of military mobilizations and movements inside and outside the capital. However, no official statement or explanatory statement has been issued by the government or the security and military authorities regarding these reports.
