Tripoli, 12 May 2025 (Lana) EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed that a free press is indispensable to building a strong, resilient, and prosperous society, both in Libya and in Europe.
Orlando said in a tweet today that the EU is proud of its support to develop free and competent media in Libya, noting that strengthening press freedom is an important part of efforts to build democratic institutions and enhance transparency in the country.
“Check out what these journalists have to say,” he added, referring to the contributions of Libyan media professionals to training programs and initiatives aimed at supporting an independent and effective media environment in Libya.
This statement came on World Press Freedom Day, which is celebrated annually to emphasize the importance of professional media as a tool for promoting dialogue and building trust between citizens and institutions.
