112 MPs demand an urgent investigation into reports of migrants being deported from the US to Libya.

Friday, May 9, 2025 (LANA) - 112 members of the Libyan House of Representatives called on the Attorney General to open an "urgent and transparent" investigation into the reported deportation of immigrants from the United States to Libyan territory. They called for revealing all the circumstances and holding accountable anyone proven to have been negligent or involved in violating the country's sovereignty.

In a joint statement, the representatives pointed to the "absence of a definitive denial" from official authorities, despite frequent local and international reports about the transfer of illegal immigrants, some with criminal records, to Libya. They considered this a "flagrant violation of national sovereignty and an unacceptable violation of Libyan territory."

The representatives called on national political and military forces to take unified and urgent action to confront what they described as "systematic tampering," even if it required the use of force. They warned that complicity in this matter constitutes "high treason that requires accountability and prosecution without leniency."

The representatives also called for the House of Representatives to remain in permanent session to follow up on the case, along with the kidnapping of MP Ibrahim al-Darsi, and all other issues related to national security and the dignity of Libyan citizens.

The New York Times reported, citing informed sources, that the administration of former President Donald Trump discussed deporting immigrants with criminal records to Libya. Reuters indicated a lack of clarity regarding any agreement with Libyan authorities or the legal procedures followed in this regard.
