Tripoli, May 9, 2025 (LANA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity categorically denied media reports of contact between Libyan officials and the former US administration regarding the acceptance of deported immigrants from the United States to Libya.
The ministry confirmed in a statement posted on its Facebook page that these allegations coincide with the spread of photos of MP Ibrahim al-Darsi showing him in a "humiliating and inhumane detention situation," which caused "widespread shock" among local and international public opinion.
The ministry added that these allegations are not based on any official source or reliable documents, considering their publication part of a "systematic propaganda campaign aimed at diverting attention from legitimate demands to uncover the party involved in the torture and kidnapping of a parliamentarian and shifting the focus of public debate from a serious humanitarian issue to false allegations," according to the statement.
The ministry affirmed in its statement that the Government of National Unity's position on the issue of illegal immigration is clear and firm, based on respect for national sovereignty and the rejection of any attempts to resettle or use Libyan territory as an alternative to externally imposed solutions.
