Tripoli, 6 May 2025 (Lana) Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator Aeneas Chuma appreciated Libyan communities and authorities for generously hosting Sudanese refugees.

This came during his visit yesterday to the city of Ajdabiya, where he reviewed UN-supported humanitarian services, according to UNSMIL on its website.

He further acknowledged the challenges that health, education, and water infrastructure face as the influx of Sudanese refugees continues and highlighted the importance of increasing international support to shoulder the burden that local communities face in their daily lives.

He also stressed the importance of coordinated efforts amongst the Libyan authorities, INGOs, and the UN through systematic data sharing and timely coordination to improve effectiveness in delivering limited resources to Sudanese refugees and Libyan host communities.

Chuma reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting and strengthening inclusive service delivery across Libya.
