Tripoli, May 5, 2025 (LANA) - US Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, announced today, Monday, his retirement from the diplomatic corps at the end of May. "After nearly 45 years in the Foreign Service, including six years as U.S. Ambassador to Libya, first as Special Envoy to Libya, and later as Special Representative for Libya, I have completed my service and will retire from the Foreign Service at the end of May," Norland tweeted.
Norland expressed his gratitude to all the Libyan officials and citizens I had the honor of meeting and working with from across the country in support of a peaceful and unified Libya, and to the foreign diplomats, especially from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, for their tireless cooperation. He also thanked the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Libya, led by Chargé d'Affaires Jeremy Berndt, for their professional support of U.S. diplomacy in Libya.
Norland concluded his tweet by emphasizing that the United States will continue to work with Libyans from the east, west, and south of the country in support of efforts to unify the country and build a partnership that will make our two countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous."
