Tripoli, May 3, 2025 (LANA) – The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) received, on Saturday, the Undersecretary of Defense of the Government of National Unity, Abdulsalam Al-Zoubi, in the first official visit by a Libyan Ministry of Defense official to the Pentagon in more than a decade.

The "Our Government" platform reported that the Undersecretary held a series of high-level meetings with a number of senior US Department of Defense officials, including the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Director of Africa Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, David Keith, and the Director of Middle East and African Affairs on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Rear Admiral Erin Osborn.

The meetings were attended by the US Defense Attaché to Libya, Lt. Col. Ethan Erwin, Lt. Col. Spencer Probst of the North African Affairs Office at the Department of Defense, and Lt. Col. Thomas Clark of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

According to the same sources, the talks addressed ways to enhance military and security cooperation between Libya and the United States, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, and counterterrorism, in line with Libya's aspirations to rebuild its defense institutions according to modern professional standards.

As part of his visit to the United States, the Undersecretary of Defense will participate in the "Special Operations Week 2025," hosted by Tampa, Florida, from May 5 to 8, with broad participation from representatives of defense ministries and special forces commanders from around the world.
