The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity cancels (25) Libyan diplomatic missions abroad

Tripoli, April 30, 2025 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, decided to cancel (25) Libyan diplomatic missions abroad, and to include them with Libyan embassies, consulates, or missions located in other countries, and to form a committee to study reducing the number of employees in Libyan embassies, consulates, and missions, and to address the conditions of their workers. 

According to a decision by the Prime Minister, (25) Libyan embassies will be abolished and annexed to the Libyan embassies in the countries located in the specified regions, which are (the Libyan embassies in the Vatican and Albania, and annexed to the Libyan embassy in Italy - abolishing the embassies of Panama and Nicaragua and annexed to the embassy of Venezuela - abolishing the embassy of Saint Lucia and annexing it to the embassy in Brazil - abolishing the embassy of Chile and annexing it to the embassy of Argentina - abolishing the embassies of Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho and annexing them to the embassy of South Africa - abolishing the embassy of Sao Tome and Principe and annexing it to the embassy of Cameroon - abolishing the embassy of Seychelles and annexing it to the embassy in Kenya - abolishing the embassies of Benin and Guinea Conakry and annexing it to the embassy in Nigeria - abolishing the embassy in Cape Verde and annexing it to the embassy in Mauritania - abolishing the embassy of Togo and annexing it to the embassy in Ghana - abolishing the embassy in Gambia and annexing it to the embassy in Senegal - abolishing the embassies of Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and their integration into the embassy in Uganda; the abolition of the embassy of Burkina Faso and its integration into the embassy in Mali; the abolition of the embassy of Malawi and its integration into the embassy in Mozambique; the abolition of the embassy of Sri Lanka and its integration into the embassy in Bangladesh; the abolition of the embassy in Vietnam and Thailand, and their integration into the embassy in Malaysia; the abolition of the embassies in Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, and their integration into the Libyan embassy in Kazakhstan.

The Prime Minister also issued a decision suspending scholarships for study abroad as of April 28, while maintaining the current study period for scholarship recipients without extension.

The decision stipulated the transfer of financial allocations resulting from the suspension of scholarships from the scientific research support budget to the National Electronic Library project, to be used to develop digital infrastructure and provide knowledge and academic resources for all students and researchers within Libya.
