Tripoli, April 30, 2025 (LANA) – Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi proposed to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, reviving the Berlin process as a realistic and effective path to resolve the political crisis in Libya.
This came during his meeting with Tetteh today, Wednesday, to discuss developments in the political process in Libya and exchange views on ways to address the current political impasse, advance the political process, and discuss developments in the national reconciliation project.
The Presidential Media Office reported that the meeting addressed several important issues, including the economic situation, the unification of the military institution, the issue of illegal immigration, and human rights. Al-Lafi stressed the importance of preserving rights and freedoms and emphasized the efforts he is making in this regard, in line with the Presidential Council's commitment to upholding the principles of justice, accountability, and the rule of law.
The meeting also discussed the progress made in the Border Guards file, as one of the fundamental pillars for strengthening sovereignty and maintaining national security. The UN envoy expressed the UNSMIL's support for these efforts, stressing the importance of ongoing coordination in this area with relevant international bodies.
The office indicated that the two sides discussed the latest developments in the national reconciliation project, with Tita expressing her full support for the steps taken in this process and the UNSMIL's readiness to mobilize international support for it, in coordination with the efforts of the African Union, as a pivotal path to achieving social peace.
Abdullah Al-Lafi proposed reviving the Berlin process as a realistic and effective path to resolving the political crisis. Tita affirmed the UN's support for any initiative that leads to comprehensive national consensus and fulfills the Libyan people's aspirations for stability and development.
According to the media office, at the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of the Advisory Committee's role in supporting dialogue and developing a consensus vision that addresses the contentious issues between the main parties was emphasized, leading to the implementation of electoral requirements and the completion of the transitional phases.
