Tripoli, April 30, 2025 (LANA) - Presidential Council member Abdullah Al-Lafi affirmed that the Council prioritizes the issue of displaced persons within the reconciliation process, emphasizing the need to ensure their active participation in shaping the future and formulating a new social contract in the country.

This came during his meeting yesterday, Tuesday, with a delegation of representatives of displaced persons from eastern cities. The meeting discussed developments related to the national reconciliation process and the challenges facing the displaced persons and their families at home and abroad.

Al-Lafi stated that national reconciliation is not merely a political process, but rather a comprehensive national project based on the principles of transitional justice, reparation, truth, accountability, and the creation of conditions for the safe and voluntary return of all displaced persons and refugees. This will contribute to strengthening stability and civil peace and establish a civil state capable of accommodating all its citizens.

During the meeting, the representatives of the displaced reviewed the difficult humanitarian and social conditions facing this segment of the population, and the obstacles they face that prevent their safe and dignified return to their cities and regions. They affirmed their full support for the National Reconciliation Initiative launched by the Presidential Council, as it is the comprehensive framework that reflects the aspirations of Libyans to turn the page on the past, address the effects of the conflict, and achieve social justice.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Lafi praised the positive role played by the representatives of the displaced in supporting the reconciliation process, stressing that the Presidential Council will continue to work to ensure that the National Reconciliation Project is a true expression of the collective will of the Libyan people and a lever for comprehensive national consensus, without discrimination or exclusion.
