Tripoli, April 28, 2025 (LANA) - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, warned that those holding supervisory positions in Libya must understand that their primary responsibility is to ensure that elections are held.
In an interview with UN Television, excerpts of which were posted on the UN mission's Facebook page on Monday, she added: "I hope that the work we will undertake based on the outcomes of the Advisory Committee will help achieve this goal."
She emphasized that everyone agrees that the ultimate goal of the various political parties is to reach elections, despite differing views on how to achieve this goal.
The UN envoy explained: "In the west, it is not just about forming a government that will lead the country toward elections. There are also issues they are demanding to be addressed, such as focusing on consensus on the constitution before holding elections. Others are focusing on unifying institutions, especially the operational readiness of the institutions responsible for managing elections."
She added: "In the east, most of what I heard was about forming a new government that will prepare the country for elections."
She said, "From my point of view, it is important to point out that all institutions, without exception, have exceeded their original mandate, which concerns their legitimacy."
