This came during a meeting held at the General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo, on the sidelines of the 163rd regular session of the League's Council at the level of foreign ministers.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on its Facebook page that this step confirms Libya's commitment to supporting joint Arab action and implementing its institutional commitments.
The ministry added that the meeting discussed developments in Libya and ways for the Arab League to support a purely Libyan political settlement process, led by the Libyan parties and stemming from an independent national will, free from any foreign interference. Mechanisms for strengthening the League's role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability and building institutions were also discussed.
For his part, Aboul Gheit affirmed during the meeting the League's commitment to its responsibilities toward Libya and its continued readiness to accompany the Libyan people on their path toward consensual solutions that meet their aspirations for security and development.
