A delegation from the Government of National Unity discusses in Washington prospects for cooperation in the energy sector and the return of American companies to invest in Libya.

Washington, April 22, 2025 (LANA) – A delegation from the Government of National Unity visiting the United States held a meeting yesterday in Washington with US State Department officials to discuss prospects for cooperation in the energy sector.

The Government Media Office reported that the Libyan side included Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, member of the Board of Directors of the Libyan Investment Authority and Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects Mustafa Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy Suhail Boushiha, Advisor to the Minister of Oil Jamal Huwaisa, and member of the Office of the Minister of Oil Mohammed Zaid. The US side included Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Laura Lockman, Libya Dossier Officer Matthew Boutin, and Senior Energy Advisor for the Middle East Chrissy Bishay.

According to the office, the meeting discussed ways for US companies to return to invest in Libya and contribute to the development of the oil infrastructure, as well as the expansion of renewable energy projects, especially green hydrogen, and plans to modernize the refining sector with the aim of boosting national revenues.

The meeting also addressed ongoing preparations for hosting the Gas Forum in November 2025 and the Libya Energy and Economy Summit, scheduled for January 2026, which aims to attract more international investments and partnerships in the energy sector.
