US military ship arrives in Benghazi

Benghazi, April 21, 2025 (LANA) – The USS Mount Whitney arrived in Benghazi on Monday, coming from Tripoli.
The US Embassy tweeted that during the USS Mount Whitney's visit to Benghazi, Vice Admiral J.T. Anderson, Commander of the US Navy's Sixth Fleet, Special Envoy Ambassador Richard Norland, and Chargé d'Affaires Jeremy Berndt met with Lieutenant General Khairy al-Tamimi, Secretary-General of the General Command, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Security Forces, and Lieutenant General Shaib al-Saber, Chief of Staff of the Libyan Navy, along with a number of senior military officials.
The embassy explained that the two sides discussed ways to enhance military cooperation between the United States and Libya, and US support for Libyan efforts to unify the military institution. The embassy affirmed the United States' commitment to partnering with Libyan leaders across the country, in various political, economic, and security fields, to achieve lasting peace and national unity.
The US ship visited the capital, Tripoli, yesterday, Sunday, where the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, and a number of military and security leaders met with the US delegation, which included military and political officials.
The Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity stated that the meeting discussed the progress of military and security cooperation between the two countries, and ways to advance and increase the scope of cooperation, particularly in the field of training and some common issues, such as combating terrorism and illegal immigration.
