New York, 16 April 2025 (Lana)—Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UNSMIL, Hanna Tetteh, at the UN’s headquarters in New York.

“I was pleased with this meeting, which came a day before Tetteh’s briefing to the Security Council, during which she reviewed the results of her meetings and consultations in Libya after assuming her position as part of her efforts to support national efforts to find a comprehensive political solution to the current crisis in Libya," El-Sonni said in a tweet.

“The meeting also discussed the economic and humanitarian challenges currently facing Libya, and I stressed the important role of the UN Envoy during the next period in supporting the Libyan leadership and ownership of a solution and the need to support the national initiatives to end the transitional stages and reach the elections,” he added.

He also stated the meeting discussed the regional developments and their impacts on Libya and the neighboring countries, stressing the importance of pushing for stability and ending the current crisis in Libya, given its positive repercussions for the stability of the entire region.
