Tripoli, Monday, April 14, 2025 (LANA) – President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, discussed developments in the political, economic, and security situation in the country today, Monday, at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli, with the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando.
The meeting addressed the pivotal role of the Presidential Council and coordination with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to overcome the political division and move forward towards elections. Economic challenges, uncontrolled spending, and the need to strengthen oversight and activate transparency and accountability tools were also discussed.
The Ambassador reiterated the European Union's commitment to supporting Libya in the issues of unifying the military institution and combating illegal immigration, praising President Menfi's leadership in confronting crises and unifying the national front.
Menfi emphasized the continuation of coordination with European partners, the priority of protecting human rights, and the implementation of Security Council recommendations to prosecute human trafficking networks and perpetrators of all human rights violations.
