The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity begins preparations for the national report for the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights.

Tripoli, April 13, 2025 (LANA) – Official preparations for the national report for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity on Sunday. The report is scheduled to be discussed before the United Nations Human Rights Council during its fiftieth session in Geneva.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the preliminary meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters, was chaired by Taher Al-Baour, Chairman of the Report Drafting Committee, and attended by representatives of relevant national sectors, as well as the Libyan Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva and the Ministry's Department of International Organizations.

The Ministry explained that the meeting, which comes as part of Libya's commitment to strengthening the human rights system and its ongoing cooperation with relevant international mechanisms, discussed the development of a comprehensive action plan aimed at gathering data and information from various national entities, in preparation for the final preparation of the report, which takes into account international standards and reflects the progress made in the field of human rights in Libya.

The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taher Al-Baour, affirmed the ministry's full commitment to providing all forms of support and removing obstacles to ensure the report is prepared on time. He emphasized that this deadline represents an important milestone in renewing Libya's commitment to its international obligations and strengthening its human rights standing on the international stage.
