Tripoli, April 9, 2025 (LANA) – The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, reviewed today, Thursday, with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Berndt, the latest developments in the domestic political arena in Libya and exchanged views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
The meeting, according to the official page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussed ways to support the political process sponsored by the United Nations and create appropriate conditions for holding free and inclusive elections in preparation for the completion of the country's democratic transition. The meeting also addressed prospects for bilateral cooperation in several priority areas, particularly with regard to reconstruction, economic development, enhancing security coordination, combating organized crime, and supporting capacity-building and institutional rehabilitation programs.
The newspaper quoted Al-Baour as affirming during the meeting Libya's commitment to openness and constructive cooperation with its international partners, especially the United States, appreciating its continued support for the political process and the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
For his part, Berndt reiterated his country's firm position in support of Libya's stability and unity, and Washington's readiness to continue working with the Libyan authorities to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people to build a democratic and secure state.
