180,000 health certificates issued to Sudanese refugees in Kufra by the end of March.

Kufra, April 7, 2025 (LANA) – Ismail Al-Ayda, head of the emergency room at the Ministry of Health in the parliament-appointed government, revealed that more than 180,000 health certificates had been issued to Sudanese refugees in Kufra by March, as their influx into Libya continues, fleeing the ravages of war in their country.

In press statements, Al-Ayda warned that the increasing number of Sudanese fleeing their country has impacted the capacity of Kufra's health institutions, particularly with the decline in support from many UN organizations and the shortage of some medicines and operating supplies for laboratories and radiology centers, in addition to the increasing pressure on doctors and support staff.

For his part, the mayor of Kufra, Abdul Rahman Aqoub, said that the influx of Sudanese refugees into Libya remains high, estimated at about 500 people per day. He pointed out that these numbers are placing significant pressure on the municipality, given its limited resources and the limited aid provided by relevant international organizations, especially since the beginning of this year.

Aqoub explained that the influx of Sudanese into Libya poses an obstacle to accurately recording their numbers, especially given the expansion of the land border between the two countries.

The mayor indicated that displaced Sudanese are flocking from Kufra to Tripoli and the surrounding cities in the western region, or to Benghazi and its surrounding areas.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Libya hosts approximately 200,000 Sudanese fleeing the ravages of war, including approximately 65,000 residing in Kufra alone, which is similar to the Libyan population.
