Tripoli, 7 April 2025 (Lana)—Head of Audit Bureau Khaled Shakshak discussed with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, the development of effective oversight tools and mechanisms for public spending, which would contribute to improving the efficiency of financial resource management and enhancing levels of transparency and financial governance in Libya.
The meeting, which was held at the bureau’s headquarters in Tripoli yesterday, discussed several issues related to strengthening principles of transparency and accountability in the management of public affairs, as well as discussed the draft state budget for last year and the projections for the 2025 budget.
According to the Audit Bureau's Facebook page, Shakshak reviewed the institution's oversight role in monitoring the financial performance of public entities and highlighted its reports, stressing the importance of partnering with the UNSMIL in developing the financial oversight and audit system.
For her part, Tetteh expressed her appreciation for the role played by the Bureau, affirming UNSMIL's full support for its efforts to enhance transparency, combat corruption, and develop working mechanisms in line with international standards.
During the meeting, both parties stressed the need to support the independence of the Audit Bureau, as it is a fundamental pillar of the oversight and accountability system, and to ensure its ability to perform its duties professionally and impartially, away from any influences that might hinder its role.
Shakshak emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination between national and international institutions to achieve the best results in improving governance and consolidating trust in Libyan state institutions.
