Rome, April 1, 2025 (LANA) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, affirmed that her government is working with the United Kingdom to address the root causes of illegal immigration and ensure the right not to be forced to migrate, adding that migration is a global phenomenon that particularly worries Europe.
In a video address to the Border Security Summit in London, Meloni said, "This means building a model of cooperation with countries of origin and transit of migration flows, so that they can achieve prosperity with the resources they possess."
She continued, "We agree with the British Prime Minister that border security also requires, and above all, managing migration flows and combating irregular mass migration, a global phenomenon that particularly worries Europe, both within and outside the borders of the European Union. This is why our governments have long worked together to defeat criminal organizations that exploit people's desperation and their legitimate desire for better living conditions."
She explained, "We are working to unify efforts," while stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation between the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) and the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) with third countries.
It is noteworthy that London is currently hosting a meeting to discuss ways to combat the phenomenon of illegal immigration, with the participation of representatives from 40 countries.
