The House of Representatives participates in the 2025 World Conference of Women Parliamentarians in Mexico.

Benghazi, March 17, 2025 (LANA) - The House of Representatives participated in the 2025 International Conference of Women Parliamentarians, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the Mexican Senate, in Mexico City, Mexico, from March 13 to 16, 2025.

According to a statement by House of Representatives spokesperson Abdullah Blihaq on Monday, the House of Representatives was represented at the conference by MP Rabia Aburas, a member of the Parliamentary Division of the IPU.

Blihaq said, "The conference discussed ways to achieve parliamentary parity and enhance the role of women in decision-making. It also highlighted the challenges facing female parliamentarians and possible solutions to achieve equitable participation for women in legislative work."

MP Aburas's participation in this conference affirms support for women's empowerment, promoting sustainable development policies, combating all forms of political, social, and electronic violence, and leveraging international experiences to achieve more inclusive political participation and representation for women, both in Libya and at the regional and international levels, according to Blihaq.

The House of Representatives spokesperson indicated that the conference concluded with a document containing numerous recommendations and steps related to mechanisms for equal opportunities for women and men, while combating violence and discrimination against women and girls.

It is worth noting that the conference was attended by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Secretary-General of the Union, the Speaker of the Parliament of Côte d'Ivoire, and a number of female parliamentarians and political leaders from around the world.
