Niamey, March 17, 2025 (LANA) - The Nigerien army announced on Sunday the rescue of 50 migrants stranded in the country's northern desert near the Libyan border, a transit point on the way to Europe.
The army explained in a statement that the 50 migrants, including 20 women and 12 children, were stranded in harsh weather conditions when the vehicle they were traveling in broke down on Friday.
It added that units from the Rapid Intervention Brigade provided them with assistance in the Djado region of Niger, about 200 kilometers from the border with Libya.
