Central Bank: Foreign exchange sales have exceeded $1.69 billion since the beginning of March.

Tripoli, March 13, 2025 (LANA) - The Central Bank of Libya revealed that total foreign currency sales for various purposes from the beginning of March until yesterday, Wednesday, amounted to approximately $1.696 billion.

According to a statement by the bank, these sales were distributed as follows: $816 million were allocated for personal purposes, while the value of letters of credit amounted to $880 million. The bank affirmed its continued commitment to providing foreign currency on a regular basis, ensuring the needs of the local market are met, contributing to the stability of the national economy, while maintaining financial sustainability and cash reserves.

Recent data issued by the bank revealed that the total use of foreign currency during the months of January and February of this year amounted to $5.53 billion, compared to $1.118 billion during the same period last year, recording an increase of $4.48 billion, representing a growth rate of 395.2%.

According to the data, documentary credits accounted for (43.1)% of the total usage, while personal items accounted for (53.7)%, while the value of remittances and merchant cards amounted to (3.2)%.
