Cairo, March 13, 2025 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, discussed the latest developments in the political situation in Libya on Wednesday in Cairo with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The meeting focused on the latest developments in the political situation in Libya and the need to accelerate preparations for holding general elections as soon as possible.
During her meeting with Aboul Gheit, Tetteh briefed Aboul Gheit on the results of her recent meetings with the relevant Libyan parties, stressing the importance of the Arab League's support in advancing the political process toward stability in the country.
The regional situation and its direct impact on the crisis in Libya were also discussed, with emphasis on the need to coordinate efforts between international and regional organizations to ensure a comprehensive political solution.
For his part, Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed the Arab League's full support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), stressing the importance of facilitating the holding of general elections through the necessary logistical and political support.
Aboul Gheit also affirmed the League's readiness to continue supporting all relevant parties in Libya to achieve stability and advance the political roadmap that ensures national consensus.
