Tripoli, March 9, 2025 (LANA) - The "Tebyan" platform affiliated with the Government of National Unity denied today, Sunday, the statements attributed to the Minister of Local Government "Badr al-Din al-Tumi" regarding the settlement of illegal immigrants in Libya, indicating that these allegations are merely misleading news that has no basis in truth.
The platform stressed that the position of the Government of National Unity on the immigration file has not changed, as Libya renewed during the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum in July 2024 in Tripoli its categorical rejection of any projects aimed at settling immigrants, stressing its commitment to cooperate with the European Union countries and international partners to address the phenomenon in accordance with the principles of respecting national sovereignty and human rights.
The platform added that Libya emphasizes the importance of collective cooperation in dealing with this file, stressing that effective solutions must include searching for tools to finance development projects in countries suffering from serious economic and social challenges, as this is the best way to address the roots of illegal immigration.
She added that Libya stresses that relying on the security solution alone is an insufficient approach and may carry great risks, which requires adopting a comprehensive vision based on human rights, sustainable development and international partnership to ensure effective and sustainable solutions to this regional and international challenge.
The Tabyan platform called on the media and citizens to verify accuracy and not to be carried away by misleading news, with the need to obtain information from official sources to avoid stirring up confusion about sensitive national issues.
